Caroling

Organize a caroling party or join someone else's. Flyers can be distributed in your neighborhood, or an already existing group such as a church choir or a club can arrange to go out. Have song sheets with a variety of song types ready to pass out and ask people to bring flashlights or candles. These gatherings can conclude with a desert /snack potluck at your house. A simpler version might be to arrange to gather at a designated spot outdoors, like people would if they were going to join a hiking club. More singers make a bigger sound but may have a harder time staying together if they spread out. Try bunching together or if possible rehearse ahead of time. When a household responds to your caroling, don't leave after one song, but take advantage of the audience and sing several. Many people won't be home on the night you decide to go caroling. If you feel like a more elaborate event, buy a lot of the fake fur or velveteen Santa caps. They go on sale after Christmas in most variety stores and are very inexpensive. Try to find a strolling musician to accompany the singers. Send photos of your caroling event and ideas to "Yards 'n Cards / The Culture of Christmas", the forum following these recommendations. Create a Christmas Web Site or Bulletin Board Devise a way to network on the theme of reclaiming Christmas in your own city. Encourage people to post messages about what's going on with our holiday, including reviews of shows and events, and how your local media and merchants respond to Christmas.
